Liyab's Enderr Wins Starcraft II Gold in SEA Games 2019 Written by Erwin Bantilan Acampado lived up to his monicker after ending Thomas 'Blysk' Kopankiewicz's title bid, by winning 4-1 in the title match at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Sibol, which is the Filipino word for 'growth,' is an apt name for our national team as it signifies not only the rise of esports around the world but also the advancement of esports talent in the Philippines.

Flaunting our national colors, the Sibol logo is an amalgam of the leaf and the flame. The leaf symbolizes new beginnings while the flame represents the passion of the Filipino gamer. The shapes in the flame also subtly spell out the country's acronym, PHI.

Sibol will be competing in all six titles featured in the esports event of the 30th SEA Games, which include Dota 2, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Tekken 7.

Joining them in the Sibol training pool are individuals who will prove victorious in the upcoming open qualifiers. Any Filipino citizen over the age of 13 can join the said qualifier. This will happen on August, and more details are going to be announced soon.

Once the Sibol training pool is complete, each player will be evaluated based on their mastery of their respective esport title as well as their compatibility with the rest of the team, among other factors.

Managers and coaches will be assigned per game, and they will be a part of the selection committee in charge of trimming the pool down to the final Sibol team that will compete in the SEA Games.

The final Sibol roster for the SEA Games will be composed of seven players each for team games (Dota 2, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor), and two representatives for the individual games (Tekken 7, Hearthstone, StarCraft II).

History of the Philippine competitive SC2 scene[edit]

Background: Brood War[edit]

The competitive StarCraft scene in the Philippines peaked in the year 2007, with Cebu City's SteelHeart reaching the World Cyber Games grand final stage in Seattle. His run was stopped in the Ro16 by the Korean progamer, Hwasin. The scene fell into a slump soon after, as participation in the World Cyber Games in 2008 was cancelled due to players quitting the competition and others transferring to other competitive games.

Starfeeder.com Pinoy StarLeague[edit]

During 2009, two years after Steelheart's success at WCG, Pinoystarcraft.com partnered up with Starfeeder.com with the hope of reviving the scene. They formed the Pinoy StarLeague, where players had to go through an elimination qualifier to secure a spot as one of the tournaments eight finalists. Notable players such as kAiTo, oneill (now known as Heathen), ArtUnit, and ismoltym made their presence felt in the scene. SteelHeart, the living legend of Philippine StarCraft, came back from a 2-year hiatus to test his skill with his fellow countrymen once again. However, another serious contender, EnDerr, made his debut at the tournament. Descargar project 64 version 2 1. Tasteless and Artosis, covered some of the games of this league[1]. The finals of the Pinoy StarLeague saw Enderr facing off against the old champion, SteelHeart. SteelHeart took the first two games of the Best of 5, however Enderr was able to make a comeback and take the next three games to ultimately win the series 3-2.

Alienware MPGL-SC1[edit]

After the success of the Pinoy StarLeague, the organizers behind the league were hired by the pioneer Philippine eSports organization, Mineski, in an effort to try breathe more life into the dying community before the release of StarCraft II. The first Mineski event for StarCraft was held back in February 2010 at Mineski Grounds Cybercafe. Unfortunately, only ten players attended the event. BLaZeR and EnDerr were present once again and they were joined by Yax. These three notable players showed their mastery and passion for the game as they progressed through the tournament. In the end, BLaZeR faced Yax in the finals and won in a convincing fashion. Because of the small turn out of players, Mineski decided to launch a seasonal SC1 league that would be held through online means, thus giving players in Visayas and Mindanao access to the competition.

Only two seasons were hosted before the eventual release of StarCraft II, with Blazer winning both.

Wings of Liberty[edit]

Team QNST[edit]

StarCraft II was finally released and it was a dawn of a new era. New faces joined the scene and old faces came back. Old school SC1 player Markpopo and WC3 player def formed the first ever SC2 Philippine clan named Old School Gaming (later to be renamed QNST - Quit Now Save Time). Team QNST also consisted of other members such as Heathen, Schrodinger, Famine, Kenn, bOgSy and Bojmenyek.

Team QNST had early success as MarkPopo won the first ever Philippine on-site event, Mineski Grounds Invitational, where he beat his teammate, Kenn.

QNST also took down the first ever online SC2 Philippine tournament, called the MPOT, where def defeated Megsyo in the finals.

Def and bOgSy also partnered up and joined the Pevergreen 2v2 tournament. Successfully reaching the finals, they were met with criticism and were labeled underdogs against Legionnaire and ProHuntress. QNST pulled off the surprising win against the well-known opposition.
